My cousin called today to ask a real estate question (I was in real estate sales for years). OK, Here it is? She wanted to know if she and her husband should co-sign a mortgage for her married daughter........No! I don't think so.....and here's why. My cousin said that the daughter and her husband of one year can't qualify on their own. They are currently paying for the mobile home that he had and they now live in. They want to purchase a $80,000. home. The problem is they can't afford it according to the mortgage lender without another person signing with them. This means that they can't afford to make a purchase at this time. My cousin said that her daughter isn't working and sleeps every day til about noon. I think my cousin is the one that needs to WAKE UP. The daughter has a college degree in business with emphasis on medical billing. The girl needs to get a job if she wants a house and not be calling mom for a loan. HELLO! I told my cousin that her daughter needs to be told that her and her husband can't afford a home at this time and let the daughter figure out how much she wants a house. I think a 26 y/o college educated child should be working if they want a house. Mom has already provided the education and now it's time for the child to grow up. My cousin went on to tell me that her younger daughter that is still in high school goes to work to make her own spending money. What's wrong with this picture? It is perfectly alright for the younger daughter to work. But mom needs to get a grip and figure out that the same principle should be applied to the oldest. I may have said too much.....I've been known to do this. My cousin said she didn't know why the oldest thinks that she is entitled to being given everything she wants....Huh? I told my cousin that she had better let the oldest one grow up and become a productive citizen living in the real world. Her mother has spoiled her rotten.
